Weekly Video Games Thread is High on the Hog

Happy Monday, folks! Welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread! Well, that was some Nintendo Direct, eh? And with that mostly ends the summer games season. You know, “Summer Games Season” kinda sounds better than “Summer Games Fest,” but that’s just me.

Let’s get right into the muck for today’s prompt: pigs in video games. Tepig and Swinub, Peyj, the piglets of Outset Island, Undead Parish’s Fang Boar and Majula’s Enslaved Pigs, Ganon, the Angry Birds rivals and the cops in Duke Nukem, that time Rare made a Diddy Kong racing game and decided it needed a villain and then made that villain a pig wizard (who they subsequently named “Wizpig”)… you know, I remember this cover art in one issue of Nintendo Power for a Game Boy game with a pig knight, resplendent in armor. Does anyone else remember that? And apparently Manhunt has a serial killer named Piggsy, which doesn’t count but is very on point. Anyway, I mostly picked this prompt as a way to justify using another one of the 700-plus Paper Mario screenshots I took last month. Expect more of those, perhaps with more interesting pitches, but let’s stay on this one. There are a lot of pigs in video games, whether as monstrous enemies or pets or the occasional time you play as a pig, like Oink! for the Atari 2600. And rumor has it the new Elden Ring DLC features at least some porcine fun…

While you’re straining to come up with an answer, tell me a bit more about what you played this weekend?
