I read an article that said the mark of an amateur writer is how often they use “shrug(ged)” or “sigh(ed)” in their writing, as well as a few other common words. If your characters are constantly shrugging or sighing, nodding or frowning, you may wish to edit a bit.

What are some other words like that you would advise avoiding or using too frequently?
