Akira Toriyama the creator of the Dragon Ball megafranchise and character designer for video games like Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest, has died at the age of 68.

The most influential shounen artist and arguably the most influential manga artist since Osamu Tezuka, he has influenced countless other manga artists, many of whom would go on to be icons in their own right like Naruto‘s Masashi Kishimoto and One Piece‘s Eiichiro Oda, who have joined many in the mourning and tributes for this titanic author.

In the past few decades this influence has spilt into media from other countries as well, by creators who have grown up with Dragon Ball or been influenced by many of said tropes and designs he has pioneered.
