For once, the biggest wrestling story this week wasn’t a horrible, depressing scandal. Instead, it’s about Dave Meltzer. Meltzer is one of the greatest wrestling historians ever. He’s also a journalist and… he’s one of the greatest historians at least. His stories have had errors every so often but last week was really bad. He fucked up a story about Tommy Dreamer being head of creative at TNA (he’s not). He fucked up a story about CMLL’s deal with AEW (Konnan was feeding him BS again). But most damning, he somehow mistook a decade old video of Triple H and The Rock having a confrontation for being from last week. He talked about speaking to insiders about the video, which means he’s either lying or he got catfished… again. Either way, this obliterated a lot of his remaining credibility. In “honor” of this, I decided to do a countdown of the most insane moments.
-His office. A while back, Dave posted a picture of his office. Said office was hilariously messy:

Why did he post this? The absolute mess combined with Dave looking solemn is just so funny.
-Dave watches Hidden Figures. While having a conversation with Bryan Alvarez about how samey WWE’s writing was at the time, Bryan compares it to watching a good movie so many times that it starts to get old. Bryan then makes the horrible mistake of asking Dave if he’s watched anything recently. We’re then treated to Dave talking about Hidden Figures while talking like Grandpa Simpson.
-Dave on the word “mark.” The word “mark” is a testy subject among wrestling figures. Dave had a take on it. A very bad take:

Oof.
-Dave gets catfished by a troll from India. Dave was reporting some odd, instantly denied information about Dragon Gate. He kept at it for a while before admitting that he’d been had. It wound up being a troll from India, he was able to fool Dave with the cunning tactic of “having two email accounts.”
-Dave and Bryan argue about overruns. After an episode of AEW Dynamite went over the allotted time (again), Bryan pointed out how this was a nightmare for people that don’t have the time to watch live. Dave decided to get bizarrely defensive and said that it was fine because sports go over all the time. Bryan then pointed out that WWE almost never goes over their time but Dave wouldn’t budge. This argument went on for seeming ever and ended with no one happy.
-Dave on his best memories. It was 2017 and Dave was once again defending his choice to not give Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 five stars. Somehow, it led to this conversation:

-Katsuyori Shibata’s brain surgery. This one has to end the list because what the hell? Dave was reporting on Shibata’s brain surgery and wrote that the doctors had to remove his brain and then put it back in. I know Dave doesn’t know much outside of wrestling, MMA, and 90210 (for some reason) but I thought he’d know enough about how the human body works to know better. I guess not.
