Welcome to the last Politics Taylor of January, the thread in which we discuss all things at the intersection of politics and Taylor Swift. Of course, lighting up the news yesterday was Rolling Stone’s story that Trump allies want to “wage holy war” against Swift due to her popularity. Swifties vs MAGA is the fight no one wants to see, but I’d also bet on it mostly being a headline grab and some grumbling on Twitter. 

Which, speaking of Twitter, Twitter took the rare step of actually enforcing content moderation after explicit AI generated photos of Taylor Swift started circulating on the website.

And the MAGA movement has been making lots of weird conspiracy theories about Taylor Swift and the NFL. Why? Is it because she’s popular? Is it because she’s a woman with agency? Is it because they thought she was one of them for so long before she revealed that no she’s not? Yes, probably all of the above. 

And of course even the AV Club is getting in on the mania, with their recent job posting for editor-in-chief mentioning the website being all in on content such as “an analysis of the Taylor Swift empire.”
