Box Office: October 11-13

We’re running a little light this week as time is short, having just gotten out of a 40th-anniversary showing of Alien on the big screen. Two more night showings are coming up this week and we really recommend checking it out on the big screen at a good theater if you’ve never seen it that way.

The month moves into its second week and we’ve got the Joker film on top once again. After a record-breaking weekend when it opened before, this weekend brought in another $55 million on all the positive word of mouth and box office numbers. That brings the domestic total to $193 million or so and with its overseas it now has a worldwide total of $543 million in twelve days. Suffice to say, they’re laughing at Warner Bros. over this one.

New opener Addams Family is filling the family need that’s going to eat into Abominable as it had a $30 million debut, which is pretty solid overall. It nailed a B+ CinemaScore and it looks like it’s half under seventeen, which is good, while close to 60% women seeing the film. With a couple of weeks until Halloween, it should rake in some solid coin.

The other new film this weekend was Gemini Man which came in at third place with a $20.5 million debut on its $138 million budget and probably close to the same for its advertising. Suffice to say, it’s another film for Will Smith that’s not drawing like they had hoped it would. The film is in somewhat limited overseas release with 58 markets and that has it totaling $39 million after some limited showings prior to the full debut.

Judy expanded again, now into 1,627 theaters, and it added another $3.2 million to its coffers and rave reviews and is now at just under $15 million.

Jexi‘s debut this weekend hit the targets expected with a $3.1 million take and you can read our review of it here.

Next weekend sees two toplining films with Maleficent: Mistress of Evil landing in 3,700 screens while Zombieland 2: Double Tap will hit 3,400 screens. Jojo Rabbit will land in 5 screens and the first showings of The Lighthouse from A24 hit as well.
