We’ve had threads before where people sell the merits of their hometown, etc, but I thought I’d try a slightly different angle with this thread.
So, where do you consider yourself from?
You might have grown up somewhere originally, then moved on later, or perhaps you consider yourself from a certain region; Southern USA, Western Europe, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, for example. Maybe you’ve emigrated and would like to talk about your new country of residence, the definition is up to you.
Obviously, some people will want to retain their anonymity so feel free to be as vague or specific as you like. We can’t all say, “Earth,” though.
I’ll start things off:
I’m originally from London, UK, but I moved slightly outside the city when I was in my teens.
Then I had a job that required me to move around the country a few times, until I eventually ended up where I live now, County Durham.

Because the county city is also called Durham, people differentiate between the city itself and the surrounding area by using the qualifier “county”.
Durham itself is a medieval town, dating back to A.D 995. It is moderately famous for having a cathedral and a castle, both of which are often used for filming locations; a couple of Harry Potter films were shot there and even a scene in Avengers: Infinity War!

The county also contains a portion of the North Pennines, a designated AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and is very popular with hikers, bikers and general sightseers.

I live right at the top of the county, near a city called Gateshead, which itself is directly across a river from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In fact, my post code (ZIP code) is a Newcastle one, not a Durham one, so most of our admin stuff (hospitals, council, courts) is done in that city instead.
Newcastle is easily the biggest city in the North East of England and the eighth most populated area in the UK. It is traditionally associated with the coal mining and ship building industries but these days it is a major hub for tourism, retail, digital technology and business.

Anyway, that’s enough from me. Your turn!
