Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Apr. 10 – Day two of the College Championship involved these contestants:
– Jordan, a senior at Columbia, whose online research into bungee jumping didn’t stop her from trying it – once;
– Dhruv, a freshman at Brown, who is a long-distance runner; and
– Thatcher, a sophomore at Oklahoma, who hopes to be a football offensive coordinator.
Dhruv was very sharp right from the start, hitting all three DDs on his way to a no-doubt-about-it runaway, entering FJ with $22,800. Both Thatcher and Jordan knew they would have to improve to have a good chance at a wild card, with $10,800 and $6,200 respectively at the end of DJ.
DD1 – “HAMLET”- Shakespeare may have gotten the names of these courtiers from 2 members of the Danish nobility (Dhruv won $3,000)
DD2 – NOBLE PEACE PRIZE WINNERS – These people are the “R” in UNHCR, which gives them shelter and helps them find a new permanent home (Dhruv won $2,800)
DD3 – B.C.-ING YOU – Called the “Father of History”, he wrote a long account of the Greco-Persian Wars (Dhruv won $1,200)
FJ – U.S. CABINET DEPARTMENTS – This cabinet department traces its roots back to the Manhattan Project & efforts to develop the atomic bomb
Everyone was correct on FJ, with both Thatcher and Jordan betting it all except one dollar. That made Thatcher a stone cold lock for a wild card with $21,599, while Jordan has to hope that three of the remaining six runners-up can’t beat her score of $12,399. For the record, Dhruv bet $512 to advance with $23,312.
Triple Stumpers of the day: No one knew the castle setting for “Hamlet” is Elsinore or that Prescott is in Arizona.
That’s before our time: The players didn’t know the director of “The Breakfast Club” is John Hughes.
Pavlov: Myanmar = Burma.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern?
DD2 – What are refugees?
DD3 – Who was Herodotus?
FJ – What is the Department of Energy?
