Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Feb. 26 – Here are today’s contestants:
– Jonah, a writer from Los Angeles, CA, who has a sandwich named for him in Philly;
– Maryann, a librarian from Cleveland, OH, who is yet another Harry Potter superfan; and
– Alan, an administrative assistant from Seattle, WA, who knows Danny Kaye’s tounge-twisting song about Russian composers. Alan is a two-day champ with winnings of $23,710.
After missing DD2 to remain in third place, Jonah still had a chance to make a big move by looking for DD3 in the higher-priced part of the only remaining untouched category. But with four chances he failed to do so and Alan took advantage, getting DD3 right to lead into FJ with $13,400 vs. $11,800 for Maryann and $7,900 for Jonah.
DD1 – THE BOOK’S ORIGINAL LANGUAGE – “A Journey to the Center of the Earth” (Jonah won $1,600)
DD2 – HAVE A GREAT ONE! – This ballet about a feathered creature was Igor Stravinsky’s first international success (Jonah lost $2,500)
DD3 (video) – A LONG ELEVATOR RIDE – Even the elevator doors are art deco in this skyscraper, whose name hnors an automobile builder (Alan won $4,000)
FJ – NAME THE NOVEL – “I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet”
Maryann and Jonah were correct on FJ but Alan surprisingly missed, so Maryann took the victory with her bet of $4,001, improving to $15,801 as the string of low-scoring winners continued. Note that by betting nearly everything, Jonah gave up his chance to win on a possible Triple Stumper.
Triple Stumper of the day: The TV drama that features a character named Jethro is “NCIS”, although Maryann made the understandable mistake of guessing that highly realistic examination of the banking system and how it exploits the common people, “The Beverly Hillbillies”.
This day in Trebekistan: When Alex clears his throat he sounds a lot like a certain movie monster, so maybe that cold he talked about recently is getting worse.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is French?
DD2 – What is “The Firebird”?
DD3 – What is The Chrysler Building?
FJ – What is “Frankenstein”?
