Sportacados Discussion Thread for October 17-18

A sad LA Dodgers fan

This is the Sportacados Discussion Thread, for talking about all things sports! Feel free to live-chat games, talk about the latest news and rumours, discuss sports history, and anything else that relates to watching other grown adults throw or hit a ball. Hateration is allowed, but try to keep it within the realm of light banter.

WordPress was being a jerk to me yesterday but better late than never, right?

News and Results

* The LA Dodgers’ run of playoff success ended in decisive fashion on Thursday, as the Milwaukee Brewers swept them in the NLCS. The Brewers advance to their first World Series in 44 years, and become the second team to have won a pennant in both the AL and NL. The Dodgers face the issue of an aging core committed to big deals, but with the ability to spend as much money as they want, they are likely to remain contenders

* ESPN has reported that the College Football Playoff has finalized a proposal for a 24-team playoff beginning in 2027. The details suggest that this is basically the worst version of the proposal, with no added slots for G6 teams, and the first round of games replacing conference championship weekend. It still needs to be voted on, but playoff expansion seems inevitable despite being very unpopular with fans.

* The second week of Champions League soccer is in the books. Paris St. Germain top the combined table after a 4-2 win against Manchester City that was not as close as the scoreline make it look. In other games, Real Madrid came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat Roma, Viking FK got a famous result with a draw against Bayern Munich, Sabah of Azerbaijan recorded their first-ever UCL win, and Aston Villa got a thumping 6-0 win over Fenerbache.
