I am sure that fans of other sports will tell you that the first day of the season is always magical, but for me there is always something about opening day of baseball that is magical. Maybe it’s the illusion that spring is here (the forecast for Citi Field tomorrow is rainy and about 50 degrees). Maybe it’s the tendency of baseball fans to wax rhapsodic (to the annoyance of everyone else). Or maybe it’s just that no other sport has such a long season, and therefore there is more time to be optimistic in March and April. No matter. Spring training is over. Tomorrow, the games count. (OK, they counted last week in Seoul, but still). Play ball!
Elsewhere…
- March Madness rumbles on as the chalk is holding well in both the men’s and women’s tourneys.
- The last precious few weeks of the NBA and NHL regular seasons are here, and the Celtics have already clinched home court in the East.
- Gambling scandals? Yes, folks, we have them in both MLB and the NBA. I am shocked, shocked!
- EPL is not quite at the end, but the three way race for the top spot looks to be exciting.
As ever, all sports subjects are welcome.
