Comic Book Review – Miles Morales – Spider-Man #12

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #12

Writer – Cody Ziglar

Artist – Partha Pratim

I like to dip in and out of the world of Miles Morales from time to time and I decided to pick up the latest issue (released the week of November 29th) to give to a friend. I picked up the Spider-Man 2 costume variant cover since my friend is a fan of the first Spider-Man video game. I think it will be a nice addition to his comic collection.

Miles teams up with Blade and his daughter Bloodline to stop an ancient vampire named R’YM’R. Their plan goes awry when super speedster Hightail is transformed into a vampire. Miles must stop Hightail before she feeds on the populace of New York while Blade and Bloodline work together to stop R’YM’R.

Miles Morales shows readers once again he has what it takes to overcome overwhelming odds in his bid to stop Hightail. Miles’ journey as a superhero has been a fun read since the first day he put on that store bought Spider-Man costume until now. In his battle with Hightail, we see a growth of mature from Miles as he assesses the situation and figures out a way to end the threat without hurting her, innocent bystanders, or himself. He doesn’t go in guns blazing like he would have done a long time ago. He uses his intelligence and know how in order to stop a super speedster, putting himself in harm’s way if need be, to win the battle.

People may not know this but Blade celebrated his fiftieth anniversary in 2023 and having him and Bloodline guest star is a nice touch, especially since this storyline takes place during Halloween. There is a final page teaser of the looming Gang War as we see The Hobgoblin rear his ugly head once more.

The only negative thing I have to say about this issue is Miles’ dialogue. He spits some phrases that teens use today and as a 41-year-old man, I’m not hip to the lingo the younger generation uses nowadays. Hundo P.

The Road to Miles Morales’ 300th issue begins now as this issue is Legacy Number 294. I will probably stick around from now until the milestone issue to see what happens with Miles and his role in the Gang War crossover event. I’m sure the milestone issue will be ten bucks (Thanks Marvel for your insane pricing points) so I better put some money aside now if I want to pick the issue up later in 2024.

If you made it this far dear reader, thanks for taking the time to read my review. A question for the audience – what is your favorite moment in comics or movies featuring Miles Morales?

Mark your calendar now – The 300th issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man is slated for release in March 2024.
