The 21 of you arrive at the Dickens estate. Not all at once, mind you. At different times, from different places, in different modes of transportation. All of you are fashionably late.
At the door to greet you is The Commodore himself, Dorian Dickens.
“Welcome to my humble abode, detectives!” He says to you, cheerfully. “I hope you don’t mind the mess, Chef Ash and our butler have been working all day in the kitchen to make everything perfect for tonight.”
The house is spotless.
The Commodore leads you to an incredibly long dining room table furnished with 8 nice chairs and 16 sad-looking ones. The 8 nice chairs are labeled with names so no one can steal them. You reluctantly sit in an ugly chair.
Before you can converse politely about rich people things (this house is entirely too big for anyone to live in), a frazzled-looking teen sprints through the double doors.
“Am I late? Did I miss guests? Oh, man. That is so not lit.”
Dorian gives her a thumbs up. “I agree with whatever you just said.” He turns to address the rest of you. “This is Spooky. She’s my secretary, and she’ll be running the show tonight! Please excuse her language, she’s… a teenager.”
After you get your gasps of fear out of the way, you all sit down for dinner. The teen, the butler, and the chef pass out plates. The food is middling at best.
Midway through service, Spooky gets a whisper from the chef. She smiles and sits down in one of the ugly chairs. “Big mood,” she says to one of you. You smile politely. She joins in eating with the rest of you.
Finally, dessert is served. It’s pudding! Dorian’s favorite! Everyone gets a single bowl, while The Commodore gets at least four. You’re not sure why the game decided to focus on his love for pudding rather than literally any other characterization. Right before you all take your first bite, the lights flash off! You hear a teen-sized scream, a rustle, and a crash, then the lights quickly flash back on.
Spooky’s gone! And in her place is…
A letter?
The Commodore stands up, disgruntled. “Not again.”
You all are reasonably confused.
As if to answer, The Commodore walks to Spooky’s seat to pick up the letter. “This heart-shaped sticker can only mean one thing– that my arch nemesis, Mr. Valentine, is behind Spooky’s disappearance!”
“Who’s Mr. Valentine?” One of you pipes up.
The Commodore pulls out a picture he keeps on him at all times, and hands it to you to pass around the table. “Mr. Valentine has tormented me and my family for years. He’s the Shakespeare of crime! Everywhere I go, he follows, bringing terrible deeds and heart-shaped letters with him! And this final act of terror before I retire? It’s an insult to my very name!”
He opens the letter, still seething. It says:
Hello, detectives!
If you’d like to recover your teen,
You’ll have to work through my scheme!
I have four Valen-spies inside your home
So get your nose to the grindstone
And find them– before I get rid of every last one of you!
I hate the Dickens Detective Agency! HA!

“Oh man,” says Dorian, after reading the letter to all of you. “What a rude dude! Well, you know what to do, detectives! Root out Valentine’s spies so we can save the dinner, Spooky, and the entire Dickens Detective Agency!”

- also the usual rules + bonus conditions for neutrals. neutrals win alongside townies or wolves, whether they win has no bearing on everyone else winning

TOWN
Townies want to keep the banquet running smoothly so the next head detective can be announced. They also probably want to be the head detective.
- Bodyguard: Can choose to “protect” one player each night. If their protection target is attacked by any killing role, this player will die instead.
- Vigilante: Two-shot night kill.
- Investigator: Can target one player each night, and is told if that target is a scum or non-scum player
- Spy, but the okay kind: Can target one player each night, and is told if that player has a role or not. Neutrals who have fulfilled their agendas will read as unroled.
- Interrogator: Can privately talk with one player each night. The two share a QT, and the Interrogator’s identity is hidden (by using a burner QT account)
- Veteran: Can see who “visits” them (uses their role power on them) each night. Three-shot power.
WOLF
Wolves have been wooed by Valentine’s sneaky ways, and were told to stop the reveal of the new head detective at all costs. But not to harm Dorian.
- Spicy Wolf: Vanilla wolf, but they’ll read as the one who “visits” a player as a wolf kill. Will mock you for using mild sauce at Taco Bell.
- Judge: Appears as innocent, but roled. An investigator’s nightmare.
- Recruiter: One-shot recruitment power.
- Chemist: Roleblocker wolf.
NEUTRALS
- Butler: Has a certain target they want to daykill. This target will always be a townie. AGENDA: Wins when their target dies during the day. Loses if they don’t die, or die at night.
- Terrible Nurse: Just wants to die, man. Can nightkill someone who votes for them during the day if they are daykilled. AGENDA: Wants to be daykilled, but being eaten by wolves doesn’t sound too bad.
The Perhaps Serial Killer, They Aren’t Too Sure If They’re Feeling Down For It Yet will be chosen when a town-aligned person fulfills a certain requirement.
