Sports Corner – November 7

We note the passing of Willie McCovey, Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and San Francisco Giants legend.  McCovey is perhaps best remembered for having a chance to win the World Series in 1962, when with runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, he walloped a ball.  Which was played perfectly by Yankees second baseman Bobby Richardson, and was caught for the last out.  A month later, Charles Schulz lamented the loss by his favorite team through Charlie Brown. McCovey himself said that he never quite got over that moment.  But even though he never won a title, he became a beloved figure in SF and was there to see the Giants’s three wins in recent years.  RIP Willie.
