This is the Sportacados Discussion Thread, for talking about all things sports! Feel free to live-chat games, talk about the latest news and rumours, discuss sports history, and anything else that relates to watching other grown adults throw or hit a ball. Hateration is allowed, but try to keep it within the realm of light banter.
News and Results
- Brady Tkachuk returned to Ottawa for the first time since demanding a trade to join his brother on the Florida Panthers. The reception was not friendly, with the Senators winning 5-1 and Brady being serenaded by boos and fan chants like “You eat crayons” and “Fuck your podcast.” That last one seems pretty broadly applicable
- Sticking in my neck of the sports woods, the mighty Forge FC of beautiful Hamilton, Ontario won the Canadian Championship with a win on penalties over the Montreal Impact. This is the first time the cup competition has been won by a team from the Canadian Premier League, ending a 17-year run of MLS teams. South of the border, St. Louis CITY SC won the US Open Cup, marking the first major trophy in club history.
- One of the NBA’s longest-running scoring streaks ended on Thursday as reigning two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander failed to score 20 points for the first time in 141 games. Shai didn’t really seem to care too much about the streak, sitting for the final 90 seconds while on 17 points. The Thunder still won the game 96-84 over the Nuggets, showing their depth after a slow start.
