- The MLB trade deadline is today, and the deals have been flying over the weekend. The biggest deal of the weekend was the Detroit Tigers sending two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal to the LA Dodgers for a relative paltry return that involved a 28-year-old “veteran prospect.” Finally, something goes right for the scrappy LA outfit. Other big acquisitions include Luis Castillo to the Chicago White Sox, Luis Garcia Jr to the NY Yankees, and Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs.
- William Zepeda won the vacant WBC Lightweight World Championship in an upset win over Lamont Roach Jr. on Saturday night. Zepeda used volume punching and footwork to secure a unanimous decision. Raymond Murtalla also defended his IBF title in the same weight class in the co-main event, but is likely to move up in weight afterwards.
- Shiho Kuwaki won the Women’s British Open in a playoff over Esther Henseleit. This is the second consecutive Japanese winner of the golf tournament after Miyu “not the wrestler” Yamashita in 2025.
