The Night Thread is Spoiled by Plundor the Spoiler

Plundor the Spoiler was a giant, super-ripped, super gay purple rabbit who was the ruler of the planet Trannis. As his name would imply, he was indeed a spoiler, poisoning the once-green land with his factory’s chemicals and turning it into a toxic waste dump. Plundor’s actions resulted in the extinction of many animal species on Trannis, but he didn’t care, because it made him rich, and being rich was all that mattered to him.

Plundor was a one-off villain in the He-Man & the Masters of the Universe episode Quest for He-Man, which has become a fan favorite due to how weird it is. It was one of many written by Paul Dini, who would of course go on to be responsible for some of the best episodes of Batman: The Animated Series. Dini has always had a special interest in bad guys, and Plundor is no exception, but the evil bunny isn’t the only bonkers character to show up for this adventure. There’s also Gleedil, a freedom fighter against Plundor’s rabbit-eared terror who just so happens to be a bird creature with rather noticeable boobs (which is another sign you’re watching something written by Dini). Like, I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t ask, but what do they, um, look like? Do they have feathers? These are the things that keep me up at night.

Another interesting thing about Quest for He-Man is it marks one of the only occasions Skeletor sort-of kind-of wins. Sort of. He does beat He-Man here, even if it’s only momentarily, by leading him into a trap that sends him into another dimension and leaves him without his he-memory. This means the hero is clueless when he finds himself on Trannis, and even more confounded when he meets someone with bird boobs. But despite not knowing who he is, He-Man’s moral code is strong enough for him to be able to figure out the evil giant gay bunny with the evil bunny robots is probably, in fact, evil, and helps Gleedil end Plundor’s reign of corruption and greed. This leads to the most nonsensical moment of the of the whole episode: the evil corporation tyrant is forced to actually pay for his crimes!

When The Best of He-Man was released on DVD, Quest for He-Man was voted by fans one of the five best episodes of Season One (in fact, it was ranked higher than Evil Seed, and that is just blasphemy!). Plundor–who by the way was voiced by He-Man himself, John Erwin–was a baddie created specifically for the show and thus did not have a toy in the line’s original run, but several years later he would get his own action figure in the Classics series which was targeted especially towards adult collectors. The same can’t be said for bird boob lady, though.

Have the power tonight, y’all!
