Happy Monday, folks, and welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread! And to honor the new release of Resident Evil Requiem, today’s prompt is all about your favorite examples of blood in video games!
“Wait,” I hear you say. “This seems pretty simple for Wolfman Jew. Where’s the heart? Like, literally, there are no exploding organs here.”
Well, while I’ve been part of this community essentially from the beginning, and while I’ve been posting here for about as long, I actually do not know what violent, albeit pixilated imagery would be considered too gratuitous to use in a header. It’s not even really a question of what’s allowed; this is a site that is theoretically safe for work, and I don’t want to put anyone in a position of opening a webpage and suddenly seeing Leon Kennedy ripping off a zombie’s head with an axe. Which I have in screenshot form, I’ll have you know.
Because of that, we’re only doing blood in effects, graphics, story, mechanics, whatever. Here are prompts we conspicuous aren’t using this week:
- Favorite act of player-driven eye gouging!
- Shiniest form of viscera confetti!
- Coolest moment involving monster limb removal!
- Saddest impalement (cutscene division)!
- Most awesome impalement (gameplay division)!
- Scariest accidental chainsaw damage!
- List your favorite zombie-targeted explosions in order of size, number, and giblets!
I cannot emphasize enough that this is a wonderfully, head-burstingly violent game. And while you’re mulling over this somewhat subdued prompt, what did you play this weekend?
