The Day Thread Goes to Celestún

Welcome back to another in my irregularly posted series of Open Threads where I post pictures from and a little bit about places I’ve been.

Today we’re visiting Celestún, Mexico, a small town of about 6,200 people, located on the west coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. The town itself is pretty sleepy, but it has a nice beach, so it’s not an unpleasant place to spend some time (and with the temperature here down below -10C today, I wouldn’t mind doing so right about now).

Not pictured: The beach. They’re hard to take interesting photos of.

The real highlight of Celestún, though, is the large biosphere reserve just inland from the town itself. Encompassing a large lagoon, the reserve contains mangrove forests, and is home to thousands of migratory flamigos every winter.

Unfortunately, I’m not the world’s best nature photographer, but I’ve included some more photos I took on a boat tour in the gallery below. Have a great day!
