Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Nov. 21

Here are today’s contestants:

Jeopardy!

LIT CHARACTERS GO REALITY TV // 2 LETTERS, 3 LETTERS // AROUND THE KITCHEN // THE _ // HARLEM // GLOBETROTTERS

DD1 – $600 – GLOBETROTTERS – Chinese scholar Peng Hai identified this man as Boluo, a courtier mentioned in the “History of the Yuan” (Sarah lost $2,000.)

Scores at first break: Harrison $3,200, Jamie $0, Sarah $800.

Scores entering DJ: Harrison $7,200, Jamie $800, Sarah $1,600.

Double Jeopardy!

SPIES LIKE THEM // BEST PICTURE NOMINEES OF THE 2020s // 3-WORD PHRASES // GEOGRAPHY // BIBLICAL GROUPS // “O” POURRI

DD2 – $1,600 – SPIES LIKE THEM – Documents declassified 100 years after her execution led to speculation that she was scapegoated by French officials (Harrison improved his leading score by $4,400 to $14,800.)

DD3 – $1,200 – “O” POURRI – After his death his lyre was placed in the heavens as a constellation (With a $16K lead, Harrison added $2,400 up to $22,000.)

No contest today as Harrison hit both DDs in DJ with big leads and sailed into FJ at $31,200 vs. $5,200 for Sarah and $2,400 for Jamie.

Final Jeopardy!

SCIENTISTS – In a 1939 letter, he recalled a boyhood experience that inspired his life’s work: petting his cat on a cold winter’s night

Only Harrison was correct on FJ. He had plenty of room to go big and this time he did, adding $18,800 to win with $50,000 for a nine-day total of $268,600.

Final scores: Harrison $50,000, Jamie $2, Sarah $0.

Wagering strategy: All Sarah had to do to lock down second money was bet $0, but instead she went for it all and missed the place spot by $2. Going for a bigger score to theoretically improve her Second Chance prospects is the only reason I can think of for doing this.

Triple Stumper of the day: For a top-row clue in THE __, no one knew the TV competition show featuring “Team Gwen” is “The Voice”.

Judging the writers: For the clue mentioned above about “The Voice”, it said “we guess” the season’s winner was the title character of the show. Why would “we guess” be in there? To make us understand that while they wrote a clue about the show, they’re too cool to actually watch it (or even research it)?

Correct Qs: DD1 – Who was Marco Polo? DD2 – Who was Mata Hari? DD3 – Who was Orpheus? FJ – Who was Tesla?
