What’s the best musical number in a non-musical movie? I only know one way to find out, and that’s an Avocado Bracket Tournament! This will be a standard 64-slot single-elimination type tournament. Upvote your favorites in each match-up, you know the drill. This thread will be the nomination round, so go ahead and comment below with your favorites and upvote as many entries here as you like. The top 64 will be placed in a bracket, seeded by number of upvotes. I’ll figure out tie breakers later if needed. When nominating a scene, please include the name of the film and a brief description of the specific scene and/or the name of the song. Video clips are also encouraged, if possible, for the benefit of those who may not have seen the movie in question.
What counts as a musical number you ask? Great question. I think the simplest definition I can come up with is: any sequence where at least one character in the movie sings and/or dances to diegetic music. The music does not need to be original to the film, and I’ll interpret diegetic in pretty liberal sense as “music that the characters in a movie can hear, and therefore the audience can also hear.” I think that’s it!
