The Road to El Dorado opened on this day 25 years ago. You might not guess it given how popular it is considered today, but it actually wasn’t a big hit in theaters, and most critics spent their reviews aghast that the film had a brief offscreen sex scene. Fortunately, El Dorado was a success on home video, and has gained a loyal cult following over time. It’s a great movie with a banger soundtrack from Elton John and Tim Rice (which lead to it confusingly having two separate albums released at the same time) and likable characters, and Tulio and Miguel are one of animation’s great non-gay gay couples.
Naturally, since it was the year 2000, it had a fast food promotion at Burger King. And sadly, I don’t have any of these toys (one day, eBay! One day!), as they look like some of the best they ever had. They’re BIG as the commercial advertises, and you essentially got two for the price of one. Also, why are those kids wandering around the jungles of South America by themselves?
Have a great night, y’all!
