In which Stan wants to live forever
Stan is a vain person. One who takes excessive pride in his appearance and his masculinity. At least depending on the episode. And here is such an episode. We have Stan trying like hell to stay alive to do everything on his bucket list. And it drives a wedge between him and the rest of the family.
The family is sitting around the television, eating chips in their shirts, as nature intended. The news reports about the places on Earth with the longest life expectancy and Langley comes in with the worst. This freaks out Francine who decides that they all need to start eating healthier if they want to live longer. Stan is reluctant at first but then he tastes some Greek food and decides to dedicate his life to eating healthy. It means mostly more Greek food and then the episode takes a further turn when, after Petros, Stan’s old Greek friend, who was 96, dies.
Stan decides to try some radical treatments, with help from Roger’s latest person, Dr. Lee Vorever (sp?) including stealing Steve’s blood, sleeping in a purified oxygen tent, injecting a strange serum and avoiding anything to do with his family. Eventually this catches up with Stan and he is given 72 hours to live, 48 of which he wastes after trying to escape the hospital due to a failed attempt to do a Crank. The Smiths decide that they will dedicate that time to crossing everything off Stan’s bucket list. With help from Jason Statham, the family takes off for the Shark’s nest but are stuck in traffic. After realizing his family is the most important thing, of course he decides to spend his last moments with them. Until Roger decide to inject Stan with his Greenland Shark serum and now Stan is immortal. We see Stan and Roger lasting into the future and everyone else has evolved into rats.
Stray Observations
- Stan wants to replace Ringo to form Ringo Stan’s All Stan Band
- Stan taking Steve’s blood is a reference to that story about Peter Thiel (and other rich assholes) taking blood from younger people to remain young.
- “Greenland Shark!”
Final Thoughts: A step down from the last few weeks of the show but still a solid entry for American Dad! on its march through this season basically since the disappointing Christmas episode.
