Battle of the (Fictional) Bands: Round 3

Votes are in the books for the second round of our Battle of the Bands, and we’re down to only 16 acts left standing. Before we get on with with show, here’s a recap of what happened in Round 2.

Our highest vote total this round was the Soggy Bottom Boys, who earned 39 upvotes! This was more than enough to claim an easy victory over Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers, who ended up earning the lowest amount of votes with only 4. This match-up also had, unsurprisingly, the largest margin of victory. The closest match this round was actually a tie between Girls5Eva and Sex Bob-omb, each earning 20 points initially. I cast the deciding vote in favor of the Girls5Eva (with apologies to the Sex Bob-omb fanatics out there). In the interest of transparency, I decided based on a handful of clips for each band along with reading their bios. What ultimately pushed me to go with Girls5Eva was that, in-universe, they’d had at least one hit song, whereas Sex Bob-omb was described as only having 2 or 3 real fans. With 20 votes, Sex Bob-omb ties with Boys4Now for the highest total to be eliminated. Otis Day and the Knights managed to eke out a 19-17 victory over Mitch and Mickey to become the act with the lowest number of votes to move on. Three of the top 10 seeds were eliminated this round, including Ron Swanson’s alter-ego Duke Silver (#7), who lost to the Muppets of the Riverbottom Nightmare Band (#39). Crucial Taunt (#46) is the lowest remaining seed in the bracket, upsetting Boys4Now this round, but they’ll face some stiff competition in the next round. But as always, before the voting starts, here’s a quick encore from Round 2’s lowest scorer!

Let’s keep on rockin’ with Round 3!
