Happy Lunar New Year! For those of you not in the know, 2024 is the big one. It’s the Year of the Dragon.
Dragons are among the most impressive creatures to grace the Silver Screen. From Falcor to Smaug, the immensity of the flying beasts hold audience anticipation. Maleficent’s transformation into a winged titan is one of the most awe-inspiring visuals most of us have seen. However, it’s only in recent times that special effects have caught up to our imaginations.
Now we have post-apocalyptic dragons in Reign ot Fire, wistful dragons in the live action Pete’s Dragon, heavy-set dragons in Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and rocket dragons in Thor: Ragnarok. Some dragons, you can train. Some dragons sound like Sean Connery. Some dragons sound like Eddie Murphy, and other dragons had horrible looking children spawned with a donkey voiced by Eddie Murphy.
It’s amazing how a mythical creature that has fascinated humanity for millennia is only now being rendered faithfully on film.
