30 Day Music Challenge Day 27: Best TV Series Opening Song

Being a child of the 80s meant that we had a lot of opening theme songs to TV shows, something that faded as the 90s went on – which was hilarious since the Friends opening theme song was one of the absolute catchiest tunes out there. We had a long period where few shows even had an opening sequence, never mind a song or just instrumental music, but they made a creative comeback in the past decade thanks to streaming and chances to really make something unique and interesting on a different distribution platform.

What’s your favorite opening theme song? You can break it open however you’d like if there are more than one you want to cover, but decade or split instrumental and vocals.

Bonus Question: Which choice missed the mark?

There are a lot that I enjoy, such as the haunting music of The Expanse or the really neat design work of Jessica Jones that elevates it, and there so many catchy tunes from the 80s that stick with me as well. But the one that’s worked the best for me in general, and one that my kids and I never skipped while binging, is the theme song from iZombie.

On the bonus question side, I do get what they were going for but the opening theme song for Enterprise was one of several really bad choices made with that show that it just couldn’t shake off or admit it didn’t work.
