It’s been over a month since the last race in the 2019 Marble Rally, and our favourite orbicular athletes have been itching to get back out onto the sand.1Some might argue that sand causes itching, but these marbles don’t have a sense of touch. Will Blizzard Blaster, El Capitan, or Superball remain atop the standings, or will fan favourites Red Number 3 and Ghost Plasma make a move for the lead?
After a false start, the tiny glass balls are off. Red Number 3 hops into an early, insurmountable lead. In fact, he goes so far off screen that the camera operator can’t even follow him! The real jockeying is for second and third, with over fifty positional changes happening in the top 5. In the end, Cool Moody finishes in the number two spot, eight entire seconds behind Red Number 3. Crazy Cat’s Eye finishes half a second later in third. Rally veterans Ghost Plasma and Dragon’s Egg round out the top 5.
Stray thoughts:
- I’d love to see what Red Number 3’s off-season training regimen was. Either he unlocked some sort of hitherto undiscovered superpower, or he’s been juicing.
- Respectable performances from two of the tournament’s leaders, with Blizzard Blaster and Superball getting 7th and 8th respectively, but El Capitan finished all the way back in 13th. Yikes.
- Only one DNF, and it was Quicksilver. Three marbles came to a complete halt, but the ghost marble managed to dislodge two of them.
- H2 Blue only has 6 points in the overall standings. What is it with water-themed marbles and poor performances?
