Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Jul. 2

Please welcome today’s contestants:

– Charlie, a librarian from Colorado, is reading a presidential biography every year in order;
– Allison, a music librarian from Virginia, is a great roommate and as a result, a wrestling fan; and
– Josh, a union organizer from Massachusetts, unsuccessfully tried to eat ten pounds of Tasty Burger fare. Josh is a one-day champ with winnings of $8,199.

Charlie took a slight lead on DD3, fell behind Allison, then regained first place on the last clue of DJ to show the way into FJ with $17,800 vs. $16,000 for Allison and $12,400 for Josh.

DD1, $800 – SALAD – The name of this dressing comes from an archipelago in the St. Lawrence River (Allison won $1,000 from her score of $4,000.)

DD2, $1,600 – LITERATURE – Unseen in the Shakespeare play, Rosaline gets her story told in the book titled this character’s “Ex” (Josh lost $3,000 from his leading total of $8,200, falling to third place.)

DD3, $800 – DOCTORS & LAWYERS – Nearly 50 years after he was admitted to the Ohio bar, he defended John T. Scopes (Charlie won $3,000 from his score of $10,800 vs. $12,400 for Allison.)

FJ – WORD ORIGINS – Meaning cobbled together, it once referred to a temporary fix replacing a broken mast on a ship

In the FJ category Word Origins, only Charlie was correct, adding $15,000 to win with $32,800.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one could identify a photo of CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex might have given away the location of DD3 when Allison skipped from the $400 to the $1,200 clue to which Trebek said “Answer…”, suggesting he was anticipating her calling for the $800 clue where the DD was located.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is thousand island?
DD2 – Who is Romeo?
DD3 – Who was Darrow?
FJ – What is jury-rigged? (Alex stated that jerry-rigged would also have been acceptable, although it appears that has a different origin than the one in the clue.)
