Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Jan. 22

Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Jan. 22 – Here are today’s contestants:

– Julie, a public transportation consultant from Pennsylvania, contributes period-appropriate flowers at a local cemetery;
– Haley, a copywriter from Georgia, participates in a non-profit rock-and-roll summer camp for girls; and
– John, a microbiologist from Ohio, writes in textbooks about virology. John is a four-day champ with winnings of $92,200.

Haley dominated round one, but John was able to fight for the lead to the end of DJ despite not finding any DDs. It was Haley who prevailed by a slim margin to show the way into FJ with $14,400 vs. $13,800 for John and $7,200 for Julie.

DD1 ($800) – LIT-POURRI – The title of this World War II-set novel refers to Liesel Meminger, who learns to read what she has stolen (Haley lost $1,500)

DD2 ($1,600) – LANGUAGE FAMILIES – The Athabascan family ranges into Canada & incudes this SW language, the USA’s most widely spoken native language (Haley won $1,500)

DD3 ($1,200) – MUSICAL & PLAY SETTINGS – In Act One, Scene 1 of this play, “the curtain rises on Truvy’s Beauty Shop” in Chingquapin Parish, Louisiana (Julie won $2,000)

FJ – COMIC STRIP TITLE CHARACTERS – These 2 were named for a European “theologian who believed in predestination” & a “philosopher with a dim view of human nature”

Everyone was correct on FJ and Haley bet $13,000, not enough to cover double of John’s score. However, John only wagered $1,000 in order to force Julie to bet big and be correct to have a chance to pass him, so Haley took the win with $27,400.

Triple Stumpers of the day: No one knew 1971’s new electronic stock exchange is NASDAQ, or guessed that “No ‘L’ Day” is observed on December 25.

Judging the writers: They could have just called the category “1969”, we didn’t need to be told that was 50 years ago.

This day in Trebekistan: I’m pretty confident Alex didn’t get the connection between “Never Gonna Give U Up” and “Rick Roles”.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is “The Book Thief”? (There was also a very strange edit right after this clue.)
DD2 – What is Navajo?
DD3 – What is “Steel Magnolias”
FJ – What is “Calvin and Hobbes”?
