– Jennifer, a university administrator from Georgia, can say something in at least 16 languages; and
– Mary Ann, a marketing coordinator from California, is excited about the new Doctor Who. Mary Ann is a four-day champ with winnings of $86,500.
Mary Ann took over in DJ but couldn’t make it a runaway this time, as J helped himself with correct responses to all three DDs and Jennifer was competitive throughout. The scores going into FJ were Mary Ann with $17,200, J at $14,000 and Jennifer with $11,400.
DD1 – BATTLES OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION – In the Battle of Nassau, Continental Marines raided these islands for supplies (J won $1,000)
DD2 – THE MOVIE’S SOURCE MATERIAL – This ’90s film: the children’s book “The Sheep Pig” (J won $4,000)
DD3 – ON TOP OF THE WORLD – In 1928 this Norwegian vanished while trying to rescue survivors of a Svalbard archipelago crash (J won $4,000 to tie for the lead at $14,000 – knowing the level of the competition, this would have been a great spot to go all-in for $10,000 and wind up taking first place into FJ.)
FJ – OLYMPIC CITIES – Of the 4 “M” cities that consecutively hosted Summer Olympics in the 20th century, these 2 aren’t national capitals
Only J was correct on FJ and doubled up for a $28,000 victory. Mary Ann clearly wanted no part of this category, as she only bet $1,000 from the lead and needed misses and/or modest wagers from her opponents to have a chance.
Triple Stumpers of the day: The players didn’t know that it was Byrd who was credited with flying over the North Pole and couldn’t identify Charleston, S.C. on a map.
