I realized while undergoing enforced listening to Christmas music all day yesterday that Christmas songs go back a long way. I mean, do we ever listen to Bing Crosby or Burl Ives at any other time of year? I suspect it’s because Christmas songs trigger childhood memories of a warm, fuzzy, happy time; at least for the well-adjusted among us.
My favorite Christmas album is by an artist that I would rather die than listen to any other time of year. But it’s one my parents played every Christmas morning while I was growing up, and so now it brings back all the best feels for me.
