Moviacados! Lately due to ongoing health stuff I have been having some belly pains that actually reminded me of when I was a kid and went to scout camp. They had a rope swing over the lake and it was fun to Tarzan into the water, that is it was fun except for the times I pulled a belly flop and it hurt for some time. But I also learned something that summer that did not involve pain. I learned that wearing flip flops on the beach can be pretty nice. You can slip in and out of them easily and if you are like me you don’t care much for rushing during beach time and if you try to rush with flip flops on you are prone to lost footwear. So it turns out I learned that year that not all flops are bad.
And today I want to talk about flops because this past weekend it seems Forgotten Island was released and flopped, and I have not seen it yet but I was somewhat excited for this one: From the makers of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (one of the best animated films in the past decade), the premise is intriguing to me and will almost 100% result in tears, like this movie looks great and yet if flopped but that is okay. Financial success is not a bar movie quality, most good movies have some measure of moneymaking, but the biggest movies of all time are far from the best, and on the flip side there are plenty of universally beloved movies that made next to no money you can look up the saga of the Shawshank Redemption on that note.
So with that all being said this weeks flop… ahem prompt: What are your favourite ‘flop’ movies? Any movie that underperformed counts here I would also accept movies that made money but were so unliked they ended up killing a franchise although in truth there is only one that I can think of that fits that description.
