News and Results
* The WNBA concluded its regular season yesterday. Of note in the last games were Nneka Ogwumike playing her final career game, the Toronto Tempo securing the best lottery chances with a clutch loss, and the Connecticut Sun playing their final game before being (somewhat forcibly) relocated to Houston to become the revived Comets. The bracket is now set for the playoffs, which begin on Sunday.
* The Premier League has found Manchester City guilty of 114 of the 115 charges against them for financial rule-breaking. Charges include failing to provide financial information to players and coaches, spending money not generated through club operations, and breaching UEFA financial fair play rules. For most soccer fans this is a “no shit” story, but it remains to be seen what the punishment will be.
* The Professional Women’s Hockey League has announced that it will host its first All-Star game this year. While the announcement was greeted with some enthusiasm, fans have questioned the format, a four-team mini-tournament with teams representing Canada, USA, International and Rookies; as we already get quite a bit of Canada vs. USA IIHF competition.
