- Billionaire Stan Kroenke is reportedly buying the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno. This will give Kroenke a team in all four major North American leagues as well as the Premier League and MLS. As an Arsenal fan I have mixed feelings about Kroenke, or any billionaire, but all of his teams have been successful in recent years and there’s really nowhere to go but up for the Angels.
- It was a chaotic soccer transfer window with a lot of players flying around for silly amounts of money before the window slammed shut yesterday night. Notable deals include Manchester City buying Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye, Arsenal selling Gabriel Jesus to Barcelona, and Juventus loaning Canadian striker Jonathan David to Atletico Madrid. One notable transfer that didn’t happen is American star Folarin Balogun moving to Everton after he reportedly failed a medical. Maybe the President can get that fixed too.
- The future of regional US sports TV continues to be in flux. Texas-based platform Victory+ has financially collapsed, leaving a lot of high school teams in the lurch as well as professional teams like the Minnesota Lynx. The Dallas Stars, which had been part of the platform, will now have local games streamed on Prime Video along with five other NHL teams. The Cavaliers, Spurs and some other NBA teams will have games streamed on DAZN. If you have a sports fan parent in one of these markets, I sympathize.
