* News broke this morning that a group led by Josh Kushner and Bob Iger will be purchasing majority control of the LA Lakers, which coincidentally follows owner Mark Walter being federally investigated. My thoughts on this would be better posted in the PT, or screamed into a pillow.
* In other NBA news, Russel Westbrook announced his retirement with a video narrated by Michael B. Jordan. Westbrook was the MVP in 2017, a two-time scoring champ and a nine-time All-Star and All-NBA player. While he’s received some criticism and been a supporting player for the last few years, Russ when he was on was one of the most fun players to watch, and I wish him well post-basketball.
* The Portland Thorns announced that young star Olivia Moultrie has been placed on the Season-Ending Injury list following a damaged ACL in training. This is a big blow not just to the Thorns but also the NWSL and USWNT ahead of the Women’s World Cup next summer.
* Ahead of their first preseason game, the Minnesota Vikings have named Kyler Murray their starting quarterback. This is bad news for J. J. McCarthy and his alter ego Nine. As a Michigan fan, I’m rooting for JJ to find a place in the league, but he was pretty disastrous as a starter last year, and Murray is a guy who could be great with the right team around him.
