Movieacados! This is an exciting time! While movies released in this period tend to be a little sub-par due to the ‘dumping ground’ effect it may seem less than exciting at the moment, we have the unique opportunity to look on the bright side that it is officially a new year and that means we get a new batch of 2026 movies to look forward to.
And there are lots of reasons to look forward to movies. Number one, maybe the movie has an awesome trailer. Or perhaps it involves creatives that you typically align with, a great director, writer, actor/actors or killer ensemble cast of actors. Maybe you are invested in the franchise/franchises with entries being released this year. Perhaps it is an adaptation of one of your favourite books, comics, youtube shorts or maybe the movies just sounds like a really great idea that just ‘gets’ you. Maybe there is even a new original movie coming out and you are just pumped by concept, talent, trailer or something not involving a franchise or IP in any way (I hold out that it could happen). There is even the possibility or your own personal reasons that do not fall under anything I mentioned above, as while I do love celebrating cinema I cannot possibly cover every base in that regard. Whatever the reason is for you, embrace and look forward for your day will come soon(ish… within a year in either event).
So with all these reasons to be reasonably excited this weeks prompt is simply: What movie(s) are you most looking forward to this year? Ironically as much as I enjoy and champion original films it does seem to be franchises that I look forward to the most. Probably due to endless marketing and exposure compared to originals but here we are.
