- Nobody on this thread is more or less a person of color than anyone else. (We will not set clearly delineated boundaries on who qualifies as a ‘person of color.’ As a starting point, this thread uses the definition of ‘non-European heritage of sufficient prominence to affect one’s navigation of a society built on white normativity.’ However, we recognize that there are identities which skirt either side of the divide. If people feel that they meaningfully experience the identity of being a person of color, then they are welcome to participate.)
Hi everyone 👋🏽.
It was the Hindu festival of Diwali & despite not being a practising Hindu (actually a full blown atheist) I wish those who did celebrate a Happy Diwali.
It also continues to be Black History month over here in the UK & I’ve tried to make a more concerted effort in learning & seeing more. Unfortunately I’ve been a bit too all over the place to get more research/education/watch more done. Though I did go through @mymellowmanreturns recommendations1https://the-avocado.org/2025/10/15/the-cotl-celebrates/#comment-6782810253 & added one or two of my own:
Prompt: any Black British music or history you’d like to talk about?
I’d love to mention someone who is doing incredible work in my opinion, to bring attention & awareness to serious important issues about history that effects us even to this day:
David Olusoga is a phenomenal historian, writer, broadcaster & bafta winner, who is also a professor at the University of Manchester (a city that just so coincidentally is bucking the financial trend of every other city in the UK2weird coincidences right. Not as if a city focused on improving the lives of more people materially & educationally is gonna make a big difference 🙄.).
Searching him up led me to this interesting video:
Feel free to talk about anything you’d like to as well.
Hope you’re all doing well 🙏🏽.
