So, almost two weeks in now at the new place, and things are pretty positive thus far. I’m still making sense of the new neighborhood (internal and external), and all the stuff—social and otherwise—that’s landed on my plate has made processing a little difficult (I’d promised myself that I’d spend a week or so just chillin’ and getting used to the new environment, but I got less than a day into this resolution before I realized how much summer I’d already missed due to moving shenanigans and my medical saga), and I haven’t finished much artwork, though I got ahead on a few illustrations and picked up a sweet new portable tabletop easel from Blick that I’m looking forward to using a lot this autumn and winter. I also love my room (lots of potential, plenty of sunlight later in the day and nice views), even if I’m still getting used to having all this space (I still need to pick up a few crates for storage, but I’ve resolved to stick to a regular cleaning schedule, not least as the hardwood floor will make it a lot easier). Hoping to have everything on a more solid basis come Labor Day, which I’m also hoping will herald a calmer autumn than usual.

The header’s one of several sketches I’ve done of the nearest bar, a somewhat sniffy (at times) cafe-bar for which I had high hopes but which has so far proven mildly disappointing as a neighborhood watering hole. That said, given my changing social habits, that’s nowhere near as important a consideration as it used to be (and the geographical inconveniences are far less pressing than I expected, especially when it comes to connections with Detroit).
