Hey! We made it to Backspacer! The “fun” one!
Just some straight-up rockers that play great live, mixed in with some slow-tempo numbers about how nice it is to love your family and/or friends and/or surfing.
Honestly, the reason I love this album is in the context of the two albums that came before it, which are fantastic but rather heavy. I listen to this album and I’m like “Hey guys, I’m glad to hear you’re feeling a little better. Yeah, let’s put a bit of shine on it, Eddie. That sounds nice.”
Anyhoo, “Just Breathe” is one of the aforementioned slow-tempo numbers, and hit fairly high in the charts for good reason. It’s great! And a good example of how even though this is the “lighthearted” album, there is still enough of mortality mixed in to give it a bit of substance.
Bonus Track:1It’s cute how I’m pretending that I’m still only putting in one bonus track and not sneaking in like a third of the album in random links. “Got Some” is my favorite of the straight-up-rockers-that-play-great-live type songs on this album, and also I am grateful to the internet that I can watch a live version without having to go outside and stand next to a bajillion people. Though all thanks the bajillion people who went to this concert so we could have this video your service is duly noted.
