The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (12/24)

The great part of these year end posts is that they are pretty much pre-written for me. I know there is a best of film for The Pits, go there and vote and represent and what not. But here we will do our own year end post as well, but will hopefully add little blurbs/reasons as to why you picked each movie, thus differentiate ourselves ever so slightly (note that this is always optional, don’t feel pressured).

My personal year end list has a few rules: 1. Disclaimer, I do not see everything every year, so I can only rate what I have seen. 2. I do a top 5, it is harder that way for me. 3. My top 5 has only one entry from one genre although I do play a little loose with the genres sometimes. 4. I count when the movies are released to the public, no film fests. 5. All movies listed are in no particular order except the number 1 which is a clear favourite. I should note again that these are my rules, and no one else needs to follow them, post as you wish.

All that being said this week’s prompt: What are your favourite movie(s) for the year? Mine are as follows:

5. Inside Out 2 (Animation) – A really good sequel that does not quite live up to the original but can stand tall in it’s own right, which is an accomplishment for a sequel in Inside Out.

4. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (Sci-Fi) – Kind of the same write up as number 5, but replace sequel with prequel.

3. Boy Kills World (Action)- So much fun and colourful characters, H. Jon Benjamin’s voice over really ties this movie together.

2. The King Tide (Drama) – A story about isolationism, selfishness and cult worship. Great performances and a riveting story, filmed in my home province.

1. Hundreds of Beavers (Comedy) – So, so, so much fun, filled with inspired visual gags and innovative use of special effects.

Next Week: The movies of tomorrow… Today!
