Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Sept. 16

Here are today’s contestants:

Jeopardy!

1964 FIRSTS // FUN WITH U.S. STATE CAPITAL NAMES // 3-LETTER VERBS // ALL LIES ON ME // BOXING // FAMILIAR FURNITURE

DD1 – $600 – FUN WITH U.S. STATE CAPITAL NAMES – The only capital with 3 sets of double letters in its name, it was visited by de Soto in the 16th century (Sam added $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Evan $-$200, Sam $2,000, Aiden $2,600.

Scores entering DJ: Evan $1,200, Sam $2,400, Aiden $2,800.

Double Jeopardy!

WORKING FROM “HOME” // TRANSLATE THE DOC TALK // GONE COUNTRY // CHASING RAINBOWS // STAGE DIRECTIONS IN SHAKESPEARE // EXITS & ENTRANCES

DD2 – $1,200 – EXITS & ENTRANCES – This endower of a NYC school for performing arts was born at sea in 1836 as his parents emigrated from France to America (Sam moved to a closer third place by adding $2,000 to his total of $4,000.)

DD3 – $1,600 – TRANSLATE THE DOC TALK – Cervicalgia; literally, this (Sam dropped $2,000 from his score of $7,600 vs. $14,400 for Aiden.)

Aiden started edging away in a DJ Shakespeare category, while Sam found all the DDs but only made a net $1,000 on them. Heading into FJ it was Aiden at $15,600, Evan with $9,600 and Sam with $5,600.

Final Jeopardy!

HISTORY – A 1976 report initiated by Admiral Rickover found it was an internal, not external, explosion that caused the destruction of this

Aiden and Evan were correct on FJ, with Aiden adding $11,999 to win with $27,599.

Final scores: Evan $19,200, Sam $5,600, Aiden $27,599.

That’s before their time: No one knew boxing’s “Brown Bomber” from the 1930s was Joe Louis, or the performer of 1969’s “Lay Lady Lay” is Bob Dylan.

Wagering strategy: Aiden’s oversized wager of $11,999 opened up the possibility of him losing to Sam in the event of a Triple Stumper. Interestingly, $11,999 is the amount Aiden would have finished with if he made the expected wager of $3,601 (to cover double of Evan’s score) and missed.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is Tallahassee? DD2 – Who was Julliard? DD3 – What is neck pain? FJ – What is the Maine?
