Welcome to the 30 Day Challenge for July, where we’ll be looking at the STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. I originally conceived of the as the Science & Math Challenge so those two categories will get more attention, but we will touch on all of them.
For the most part this will not be an overly pop-culture focused month. The emphasis will be on real scientists, mathematicians, and engineers and how their work and ideas shape the world. But today we’re going to start with your favorite fictional scientist as a gentle introduction to the month’s topic. I think we have done some version of favorite scientist before (I know we have done mad scientists) but for this prompt I’d like to invite you to think about characters that are appealing to you specifically for how they represent the practice of science. Cast a wide net – think TV, movies, books, video games, whatever.
Some prompts this month will focus on more specific disciplines, but in general when I use the word scientist without qualification you should interpret it broadly to include all types of scientists and mathematicians and engineers as well.
Meta Bonus Question: I have about two thirds of the prompts for this month planned out. If you have suggestions of your own please share them.
