Weekly Japanese Pop Culture Thread (April 17, 2024)

Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! As most of you know by know, I love Fujii Kaze (藤井風) and never miss a chance to promote his beautiful music. So I am thrilled to have this wonderful concert to share with everyone today! If you’re familiar with NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, this is a version of that, but in Japan (NHK’s office in Shibuya, to be exact). It makes perfect sense to me that they chose Fujii Kaze for this, as his music has this almost magical quality that makes it feel huge and small/intimate at the same time. Plus, he has a wonderfully charming personality. All of this is on display in this delightfully perfect video that I strongly encourage you all to watch! I have watched it several times now, and it always puts a smile on my face and warms my heart.

Ah, perfection. <3 I’m so, so happy to see comments from people hearing him for the first time too. I hope that this creates many new Fujii Kaze fans!

And, as always…

What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?

Happy Wednesday! 🙂
