The Creative Endeavors Thread Hems and Haws

This is the space for our members to discuss and share their creative projects, ranging from written works to drawings, photography, and even craft projects such as knitting and woodworking. Self promotion is welcome (websites where we can view and/or purchase your work). Please do continue to preface if content is NSFW and be sure to properly spoiler/link such content.

This week, I saw a notice via social media that a local bar had put out a call for artists to do a two-month install. I’m not exactly in this to make a living (partly because I’m starting relatively late in life and partly because I quite like my work, by and large, despite massive mixed feelings about my job right now). Money would be welcome and very useful, but I’m pretty familiar with my personal work habits right now and, if I was able to sell everything I have worth selling at my own valuation, I’d have probably just short of $10K or so. That’d be an awesome chunk of change, but at almost eight years or work, it ain’t a living. I’d still love to at least get my work out there, even if it’s just for the exposure.

Nevertheless, one of my biggest personal annoyances right now is that I never have any weekend days off unless I specifically request them, and those are generally the time when shows usually happen. If I ever want to make a stab at this, for whatever remuneration (or even reason) I need to do something about this, and the potential lead time implied by this post suggests I ought to at least try and go for it. I’ve long thought that “if you don’t like your work, nobody else will,” and I really should put my money where my mouth is (not least as I have at least one or two fond memories of the bar in question).

The header’s a slightly altered image of my last exhibition, over four years ago. Sadly, the space where that cafe once stood (barely a block away from the place I’m eyeing now) still hasn’t seen another tenant despite being relatively prime real estate.

How’s your work going?
