The Winter Solstice – the day with the fewest minutes of sunlight in the Northern hemisphere – takes place today, Sunday 22 December at 4:19 GMT – or the 21st at 22:19 CST for those on the West Coast of America. We can at last celebrate Yule and welcome the rebirth of the Unconquered Sun.
(Of course in the crazy Southern hemisphere it’s the opposite, so happy Summer Solstice, Australia!)
