Best Video Game Song Tournament, 1983-1989: Finals

We’re in the final week; today it’s the finals, plus a bronze match.

You can listen to the entire top 2 here. See the bracket here.

PLEASE LISTEN TO BOTH SONGS IN A MATCH BEFORE VOTING

Voting will be live until Sunday, November 17th at 10:00 PM Pacific

Results from last round:
Contra – Jungle Theme (3) vs Mega Man 2 – Dr. Wily Stage 1 (19)
Super Mario Bros. – Overworld (8) vs Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest – Bloody Tears (16)

It all comes down to this. Wily Stage 1 has been a juggernaut this whole tournament. It won its group and secured the #4 overall seed. It’s won every single elimination round by at least a 2-1 margin, with an average victory of 12.6 votes, a feat even more impressive when you remember that Final Fantasy’s Prelude and Metroid’s Title Theme are among its matchups. It’s responsible for the second most popular Japanese Mega Man 2-inspired song of all time, Blue Fang’s “Omoide wa Okkusenman!”

Meanwhile, Bloody Tears is not exactly an underdog, but it’s at least had to break a sweat on occasion. It also won its group, but was only the #6 seed (the shame!). It won close-ish against Ducktales’ Moon Theme and Zelda’s Main Theme, resulting in an average victory of 9.4 votes. But its proof is in its schedule: facing those two legends plus Mario’s Overworld theme and still making the finals with room to spare? It may be a terrible night to have a curse, but Bloody Tears wouldn’t know anything about that #blessed.
