Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Apr. 26

Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Apr. 26 – Introducing today’s contestants:

– Robin, a non-profit administrator from Pennsylvania, hopes for better luck than Alexander Hamilton, of which she brought a doll;
– Tyler, a project manager from New York, whose grandfather learned no English from 30 years of watching Jeopardy! for the sound of Alex’s voice; and
– James, a professional sports gambler from Nevada, whose wife Melissa (finally in the audience after 17 days) has the winnings earmarked for burial plots. James is a 16-day champ with winnings of $1,225,987.

Tyler and Robin did what they needed to do to have a chance against James by keeping all three DDs away from the champ. Unfortunately for them, the newcomers missed two of the DDs, as James secured another runaway with $29,600 vs. $4,600 for Robin and $1,600 for Tyler.

DD1, $600 – GREEK CUISINE – Made from the roe of the grey mullet, avgotaraho is sometimes called this delicacy “of the South” (Tyler lost $3,200 on a true DD.)

DD2, $800 – SOCIAL STUDIES – “The Righteous Mind” examines polarization, specifically why these 2 subjects so divide us: politics & this (Tyler won the window maximum of $2,000.)

DD3, $1,200 – MONTY PYTHON PHRASES – This, in the film of that title, is defined in part as “be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book” (Robin had $5,600 vs. $27,600 for James and decided to end any remote chance she had by wagering just $1,000, which she lost anyway.)

FJ – 19TH CENTURY NOVELS – The title character of this 1841 novel says he got his name because he kills bucks & does, but not people

Surprisingly, only James was correct on what seemed to be an obvious FJ, adding $20,000 to win with $49,600 for a 17-day total of $1,275,587.

Triple Stumpers of the day: No one guessed the 1792 first use of coal gas in Europe was for lighting, or could identify a photo of Nebraska senator Ben Sasse.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex did impressions of Inspector Clouseau and an old-timey announcer in the manner of Gary Owens from “Laugh-In”.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is caviar?
DD2 – What is religion?
DD3 – What is “The Meaning of Life”?
FJ – What is “The Deerslayer”?
