Welcome to the Book Nook! This is the weekly thread for Avocados to discuss books we’re currently reading, recommendations, genre, and serious literary criticism.
This week’s recommended discussion: Today would have been my grandmother’s birthday. She was a funky, independent lady, and she also loved to read. Mysteries were her jam, and she passed that love on to me. I think her fondness for paperbacks influenced my dad, who was an absolute hound for sci-fi when I was growing up. Are there books that remind you of someone? A family member, a friend, even an enemy or an ex? (Just a reminder, these topics are completely optional, and I don’t mean to probe anything sensitive.)
One caveat: because we’re here to use our words, this is a NO GIF/YouTube/social media embed zone (the OTs are full of clutter, and I want to keep that out of this thread).
upcoming topics:
4/24: resisted recommendations (h/t Hegel Excercises)
5/1: books that make you think of places
5/8: beach/vacation reads (h/t MisterSplendiferous)
Book Nook posts every Wednesday at 8:15 AM Eastern.
