Werner Herzog has made many amazing documentaries but my personal favorite of his is easily Grizzly Man. It tells the story of Timothy Treadwell, a man who spent a lot of time grizzly bears and (along with his girlfriend Amie Huguenard) was eventually eaten by one. Herzog had a fine line to walk with this one: does he glorify Treadwell for his extensive work documenting grizzlies or does he damn him for being a jerk who got him and girlfriend killed? Herzog, much like the little Mexican girl…
…decided on doing both, praising Timothy for his gorgeous nature footage while also criticizing him for not knowing what he was doing and getting him and Amie killed.
The most notable (and haunting) scene is Herzog listening to the recording of Timothy and Amie’s death. Herzog, a man who shrugged off getting shot in the chest and having to interact with Klaus Kinski for years, sounds horrified with what he’s listening to.
Hope you all have fun posting here tonight and have a great night.
