Thank you to everyone who nominated tracks for the Neil Young Artist Tournament. In a sense, they were all winners. In a more accurate sense, only a select group were the winners. Please upvote your favourites in the comments sections to determine which songs will reach the next round.
With a catalogue as deep as Neil Young’s, it’s inevitable that some classics did not make it out of the nomination round such as Helpless (a.k.a. Helpless Helpless Helpless), Too Far Gone and This Note’s For You whose music video earned the MTV Video Music Award for Best Video of the Year for 1989. I would include it here but the official version on YouTube forbids embedding so I’ll encourage you instead to find it yourself if you’re curious or nostalgic.
As for me, I’ll pour one out for Come On Baby, Let’s Go Downtown, a personal favourite and the late Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten’s primary contribution to his employer’s repertoire.
